Software on the shelf, parts that fit

0.0.12 finished the floor plan. 0.0.13 is about the catalog: software as a library, parts that only go in matching machines, a search that jumps you there, and photos that are actually pleasant to take.

Software is a library, not a load-out

A title is cataloged against one or more machine makes and models — Commodore C64, Apple Macintosh Color Classic, and so on. It is not installed on a named chassis.

  • Install and return to library are gone. Disks and carts stay on a shelf or in a bin.
  • Open any machine and you see the titles cataloged for that hardware. Open a title and you see the machines in the horde that share its make and model.
  • Leave the associations blank and the title still lives in the software list until you fill them in.

Boxes on a shelf

Each title can have box photos — front, back, left and right spines, top, and bottom — plus the box size in inches.

  • The software list is a shelf of boxes standing on end. Hover to grow one slightly.
  • No photos yet? A generic vertical label stands in.
  • On the title page the 3D box is the first thumbnail. Tap a photo and it fills the hero; tap the box tile and the 3D render comes back. Rotate, pan, and zoom the box.
  • Use as on a photo assigns a face. Save updates the cube immediately — the page does not reload.
  • Tap the hero to open the viewer; tap the picture there to open the original upload, just the image.

Photos, cropped in the browser

Every photo — software, machines, locations — uses the same tools.

  • Crop, rotate, flip, and mirror before you keep a shot. Use or Save uploads it.
  • A progress bar sits on top of the editor until the upload finishes, then both close.
  • The original full-size file is stored unedited. The shelf, thumbs, and 3D box use a smaller JPEG.
  • Machines, locations, and software share a gallery: a hero, a row of thumbs, and a + to add another. Adding a photo opens the editor right away.
  • The profile photo uses the same editor with a circle mask over the crop, so you see how it will look in the nav. Tap the avatar to pick and crop. Take photo, Photo library, Save profile photo, and Remove photo are gone.

Put things away

Bins and rack shelves now hold software as well as machines and parts.

  • One + Store on the location opens a picker. Type a name, or scan an rtrkr.me QR — other codes do nothing. Wrong type or a tag that is not in this horde gets a plain error, not a lecture.
  • The lists refresh in place. Closing the picker does not reload the page.
  • Installed parts cannot go in a bin. The machine is the container. They still show in the picker, greyed out, even when you narrow the list.

Parts that fit

Parts can list compatible makes and models the same way software does.

  • Leave it blank and the part installs on any machine.
  • Otherwise it only installs on matching hardware. Blank manufacturer or model on a row is a wildcard.
  • The install dropdown only offers machines that fit.
  • A part lives on a machine, in a real storage location, or nowhere. The old free-text "bin location" is gone.
  • Installed parts Uninstall off the chassis. They are free until you store them.

Find it

Signed-in, a magnifying glass sits next to the light/dark switch. It opens the same picker in find mode: type a name or scan a RetroTracker QR and jump to that machine, part, software title, bin, table, rack, room, or location.

The signed-in menu is a right-hand drawer. Updates and the horde picker live there, with horde settings as a gear beside the picker and your profile at the bottom. On a wide screen the drawer stays open. Signed-out, the public bar stays a simple horizontal nav — Home, Features, Sign In, and Have an Invite? are gone from that bar.

Pages without the chrome

Title pages dropped the filler.

  • No more Record box. Created and updated sit under Edit and Delete.
  • Machine headings keep a + flush right for parts, software, and worklogs. The extra Add / Photos / first-worklog buttons are gone.
  • Stat tiles (titles, line items, quantities) no longer pad the lists.
  • The QR for each item sits at the bottom of the page.
