Storage plans, a horde export, and going public

0.0.15 was about picking several things at once and searching with tag: and make:. 0.0.16 is the hosted life of a horde: how much photo space you have, how you get your data out, where a rare datasheet can live without eating that space, and what “public” actually means.

Photo storage by plan

Every horde starts on Free, 1 GB. Photos of machines, worklogs, locations, software, and books count against it. Avatars do not.

If you need more, Horde settings → Details has two paid tiers billed to the horde, not to each member:

  • 10 GB at $5/month
  • 100 GB at $10/month

Checkout is Stripe. After you pay, the quota updates as soon as Stripe confirms. Manage billing from the same panel. US cards only for now — see Terms.

Linked files stay in your drive

A datasheet for that LM720 does not have to live in RetroTracker photos. On a machine, part, software title, or book, paste a share link from Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud Drive.

The file stays in your account. We store the URL and a title. It does not count against horde storage. Use a share link so the rest of the horde can open it — we never get OAuth into those drives.

Export a zip

Horde settings → Details → Export builds a zip of this horde: a SQLite copy of the catalog plus the original (high-res) photos.

  • One export at a time per horde.
  • Once every 30 days per collector. An administrator can reset that wait.
  • When it finishes, the horde owner gets an email with a download link. The zip stays available for 30 days, then the bucket deletes it.

Start export disables the button and shows a spinner until progress appears. Download is a short-lived signed URL, not a proxy through RetroTracker.

Going public

Visibility is its own tab.

  • Make Public is red. It opens a confirm: anyone with a QR code or public link can view the catalog — machines, worklogs, and photos — without signing in. Confirming is that acknowledgment.
  • Make Private is green and immediate. No interstitial.

Renaming the horde no longer touches visibility.

Terms and privacy

The footer has Terms, Privacy, and Feedback.

  • Terms cover US-only availability (Texas / US law), photos that are not retro-computer related, abuse reports at abuse@retrotracker.net, and that you are expected to export periodically.
  • Privacy says what we collect, that HTTP access logs are for debugging not analytics, and that RetroTracker is for consenting adults over 13.

If you do not agree, stop using the service.
